Description

The ADA Swing seat is designed to be accessible for physically challenged children and meets ADA, CPSC, and ASTM safety standards. It is rotationally molded for exceptional strength and offers added support with wider sides, larger armrests, and a larger footrest. The swing chains are adjustable to allow for different reclining positions and the swing is designed with a yoke and locking system that meets safety standards for head entrapment.

For further support, an optional removable harness is available but does not meet ASTM and CPSC standards for head entrapment, which is why the yoke system is used. Jensen assumes no liability for injuries caused by the optional harness.

Swinging has been found to aid in sensory integration therapy and improve fine motor skills, balance, touch, body awareness, eye contact, speech skills, and socialization. The ADA Swing is made of durable rotational molded plastic and all hardware, except for the attaching chain, is stainless steel to prevent rust. It comes with a stainless steel H shackle and wrench for attaching a separate chain, and the chain length needed depends on the height of the swing frame and desired seat recline. See installation and maintenance section on this page for reference. The swing seat is designed to be safe, comfortable, and accessible for all children.

Comes with a wrench to operate the clevis shackle.

Colors: Black, Blue, Red and Yellow. Green is not available.

All swings come with a yellow yoke.

This seat is for children 5 – 12 years old only. Seat is to be used one child at a time. This seat is for children up to 125 lbs. only. Not for Adults.  Adults should supervise children at all times. Parents should visually and manually look to see that swing is appropriately installed and not vandalized or needing repair before allowing a child to swing. Do not allow children to stand on seat, yoke or optional harness or use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged. If a child requires the seat to lean back further for more support, this can be done by adjusting where the one single chain attaches to the V chain. This can be adjusted by lowering the h shackle on the V. However, the swing should always be 12″ off the ground. Make sure that it is the same on both sides. If you need further information as to how to do this, please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-800-227-7529 for this or any other question. As always, if there are any questions as to whether the use of this swing is safe for a certain individual, please contact their doctor for more information.

Important: To keep children safe from harm, follow these precautions and instructions when installing, using, or maintaining this playground equipment. You can also call us at 1-800-227-7529 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.

Due to the thermodynamics and lower heat transfer properties of plastics, plastic is preferred over metal for play equipment. Although plastic may become as hot as metal, they insulate better and don’t transfer the heat as quickly. Because of these properties, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends plastic slides and plastic surfaces over bare metal. Regardless of lower heat transfer properties, plastic play equipment can still become hot enough ‐‐ in extreme temperatures and direct sunlight ‐‐ to cause burns. Plastic is safe, tried and true, but as is the case with all playground equipment, parents and supervisors must monitor the children in their care, make certain that the equipment is appropriate for their age, and always check playground surfaces for excessive heat before allowing children to play.  For more information, contact IPEMA headquarters at 1‐717‐238‐1744.

Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-227-7529.

Make sure when seat is installed the warning label is visible. Please see a minimum of additional label information attached to your packing list for information on installing other necessary labeling for playgrounds. The seat should be 18” off the ground. Each seat comes with two 8’4″ lengths of chain that are attached to eye bolts on the swing. An H175 wrench is also included. If not using shackle pendulum swing hangers, you will need to order two H172’s or two s hooks for the extra piece of chain to attach to the swing hanger. Tighten H-shackles tightly. Hangers need to be spaced 2 ft from the end of the set and 2 ft apart for each swing.  The shackles or S hooks must be attached at a specific position to meet safety standards, and it depends on which style of chain you use.  If you use C120, you will install the shackle or hook on the 38th chain link counting from the back of the seat to top connection “v”.  If you use C100SD, you will install the shackle on the 30th link counting from the back of the seat to top connection “v”.

Chain that is needed but must be ordered separately:

Frame Height Chain Length Amount of Chains Required
8′ Frame 1′ 2
10′ Frame 3′ 2
12′ Frame 5′ 2

With the above listed chain requirements, ADA swing will have the correct length of chains to meet ASTM standards for your height of swing set. An additional webbed harness is available and must be ordered separately if needed.

If you use S-hooks you will need to make sure the S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards.  To do this you will need to use our S-hook Channel lock pliers or a regular pair of channel lock.  WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Make sure that the shackles used are tightened and if you use the shackle swing hangers for the chain that these also are tightened.  Inspect regularly or use Loctite® to make sure bolt is still tight.

To meet EN 1176-1 ONLY, we will not supply the chain with the seat. Here are the instructions to attach the chain meeting EN 1176-1 standards: You need 6’ of chain. Pull the screws out of the top of the yoke and put the chain in between the washers then tighten. Go down 26 links and add H-shackle. At the bottom of the seat, attach S-hook or Shackle to the eye bolt and close according to fastener requirements. See above in red what chain you need for frame height.

Maintenance: To reduce chance of injury do monthly routine maintenance checks for cracks, rust, sharp edges, open S-hooks or shackles, worn optional harness, shackles, chain and eyebolts. Replace any worn, damaged or vandalized parts.  Make sure there are no exposed footings, anchoring devices, rocks, roots, holes or any other obstacles in or around playground equipment.  This will reduce serious injuries.  In high use areas these inspections should be done more frequently.   Clean with mild soap and water when you do the monthly maintenance checks.   If you see wear on a swing, replace all swings purchased at the same time. Remove swings from set when temperature reaches zero or over 100°.   To replace chain you need 6’ of chain. Pull the screws out of the top of the yoke and put the chain in between the washers then tighten. Go down 26 links and add H-shackle. At the bottom of the seat, attach S-hook or Shackle to the eye bolt and close according to fastener requirements. See above in red what chain you need for frame height.
