Description

This infant swing that comes in bright colors that will not fade and is made of Polyethylene. The dimensions of the seat are 12” across, 11” front to back, leg holes are 6.5” in diameter and the front of the seat is 8” deep with the back at 14”. This will minimize use by older children and adults. The width of the crotch band is 3.0”. It is rotational molded and is molded as a “double wall part”. The spacing between the walls is 1.5” for strength and rigidity. Perimeter walls-side, front and back are 1.25” apart. The seat bottom and back are at 90 degrees to each other with a transitional radius of 3.5” for comfort and strength. The angle between the front wall and the bottom is 7 degrees therefore putting the backrest at 7 degrees “off vertical” for a correct ergonomic position. This angle also provides for proper balance putting the infant’s weight slightly behind the hanging point thereby reducing the sensation of “tipping forward”. The seat bottom has four 1” diameter “molded-in” holes which act as columns for strength and support of the infant’s weight. These holes also provide drainage eliminating the collection of water in the swing. The leg holes are cut flush to the seat bottom and sides to reject the possibility of “cutting off” blood circulation in the child’s posterior thigh area. The seat perimeter frame has four integrally molded mounting points. The underside of each hole is counter-bored to allow for the locking nuts that attach the hanger to the seat to be fully encapsulated for safety and security. The hanger is constructed of .375” diameter stainless steel rod. The legs are of offset length so as to allow for the correct seat position and attitude when hung. All “eyes” and pivot joints are welded shut and de-burred for safety, strength and security. The drop-forged, stainless steel, shouldered eyebolts are secured to the seat via flat stainless steel washers and .375” locknuts. This seat meets ASTM Standards both commercially and residentially. This seat should last 2 years in harsh conditions and up to 5 years in optimal conditions. Tensile strength is 5000 lbs.

*C128, C129, C130, and C131 require using an H140, H145, H170S, or H160 at both the top and bottom parts of the chain.

To connect the S175 to an 8′ frame it is recommended to have a 3′ length of chain to ensure proper spacing below the swing seat and the safety surfacing below. As the height of the swing frame increases the 3′ length of chain should increase proportionately i.e. a 10′ high frame should have a length of chain of 5′ for the S175.

IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes, therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.

To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.jensenswing.com   Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-227-7529 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.

Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-227-7529.

This swing is intended for one toddlers two and three years old. Read all instructions before attempting assembly. To determine proper use zones needed for swing set consult Figure 23, Table 7 for commercial swing sets. For residential sets see spacing dimensions on Page 4 of the Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook. Install swing set where a child can easily be supervised.   Do not install playground equipment over concrete, asphalt, or any other hard surface. A fall onto a hard surface can result in serious injury to the equipment user. Grass and dirt are not considered protective surfacing because wear and environmental factors can reduce their shock absorbing effectiveness. Carpeting and thin mats are generally not adequate protective surfacing. Install your play equipment on level ground with adequate surfacing and anchoring. Use proper hardware, and tighten all connections.

This swing must be installed a minimum of 12” and a maximum of 24” from resilient surfacing. On average seats are 2 ½‘ from resilient surfacing depending on the age of children. Install this swing where a child can easily be supervised and not in direct sun. Swings intended for the same age groups should be suspended from structures that are separate from those for other swings for different age groups, or at least suspended from a separate bay of the same structure. For instance, a full bucket swing should be in the same bay with another full bucket swing, not a full bucket and a strap seat in the same bay. To minimize the likelihood of children being struck by a moving swing, it is recommended that no more than two swings be hung in each bay of the supporting structure. The use zone for the swing should extend to the front and rear of the swing set, a minimum of twice the vertical distance from the top of the occupant’s sitting surface to the pivot point of the swing hanger. The use zone in front of and behind swings should never overlap with any other use zone. The use zone to the sides of a single-axis swing should extend a minimum of 6 feet from the perimeter of the swing. This 6-foot zone may overlap that of an adjacent swing structure or other playground equipment structure.

To attach hangers: Take the long end of one hanger and stick it through the hole in the front of the swing, with the short end of the hanger going to the hole in the back of the swing. Once both hangers are through the holes, slide a supplied washer on threaded portion of hanger sticking through the bottom of the swing. Attach and tighten nylock nut so that it is secure and not more than two threads are protruding past the nut. Repeat this process for all four ends of hangers. To attach swing to set, measure each side of swing chain, so the swing hangs evenly. Attach the bottom of each chain to the metal triangle on swing seat with either a shackle or S-hook. The bolt on shackle goes through the chain with “C” part of shackle going through triangular hardware on swing seat. Close according to Figure A1.19 for Fastening Devices. Make sure that fasteners are strong enough to support weight and use.   We suggest using a H170 shackle or 3/8” diameter standard S-hooks to connect chain to seat. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Try swinging seat without child in it first to make sure everything is working correctly before placing child in seat.

Protective surfacing that meets ASTM F1292 must be installed under swing set and extends at least six feet from the sides of the set and twice the height of the top bar in the front and back of swing set. Protective surfacing is one of the most important things that you can do to reduce the likelihood of serious injuries.

The new CPSC standard states the owner/operator of the swing set needs to post warning signs outside the use zone that are readily visible to the intended viewer and alert them to the potential hazard in time to take appropriate action. This message may be on either a sign or label outside the use zone. Signs should be posted that state the appropriate age group for the swing set. Not for Adults. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to stand on or use unsafely. Do not allow set to be used if damaged. Remove helmets, drawstrings or accessories around the neck which are all known to create head entrapment or entanglement hazards. Where applicable, Hot play surfaces are known to reach temperatures high enough to cause serious burns to children generally less than 4 years of age.

Specifications for all warning signs or labels should conform to ANSI Z535.1 and ANSI Z535.1 or ANSI Z535.1 in the following areas: legibility, type of lettering, clarity of message and symbol, color specifications and work message and visibility. The labels or signs should be durable and conform to UL 969. It has been and continues to be the responsibility of the owner/operator to replace signs or labels or both should they become illegible, destroyed or removed. Signs can be purchased at http://www.mindspring.com/~safetyplay/

Maintenance: At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for sharp edges on hardware and/or cracks in plastic. Check for vandalism. Check for rusty or worn chain. Replace parts if necessary. Check to make sure S-hooks and/ or Shackles are closed properly. Check resilient surfacing for appropriate depth and cleanliness. If you see wear on a swing, replace all swings purchased at the same time. Remove swings from set when temperature reaches zero or over 100°. Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.

Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
