However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.

Spread pliers’ legs apart and put chain at the back of the large set of jaws. Put leg with flat end on the ground. Place your foot on the flat end for leverage and press plier’s legs together until the chain is cut. Pliers cut chain that is 5/16” in diameter.

To close S-hooks: Put the S-hook in the front part of the large jaws and close the pliers’ legs and the S-hook will close.

To open S-hooks: Use the little jaws at the other end of the pliers’ head. Put the top or outer jaw inside of the closed S-hook. Close the pliers’ legs and the S-hook should open.

Make sure any S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To do this you will need to use our S-hook pliers or a regular pair of channel lock pliers. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Make sure that if you are using shackles they are also tightened.

Maintenance: Do the following to reduce the chance of serious injuries. Make sure there are no cracks or breaks in the head and handle. Replace parts as needed. Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.
