Description

The SH140 is designed for light residential use and features a nylon bushing hanger with a 3/8″ x 6″ threaded bolt, washer, and lock tight nut. It’s galvanized to resist rust and should last up to 5 years in optimal conditions, although some conditions may require replacement sooner. The hanger has a tensile strength of 780 lbs and is sold individually.

This is for children 0 – 12 years old only. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged.

IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes, therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.

To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.jensenswing.com   Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-227-7529 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.

Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-227-7529.

To attach hanger first determine spacing by consulting ASTM 1148 diagram.

For Wood: Mark wood beam with correct spacing. Using a power drill with a 3/8” bit, drill holes through wood. To prevent a protrusion, this hanger must have a counter sunk nut. To accomplish this, take a 1” drill bit and drill down 3/4” on top of wood beam at the top of the 3/8” hole through wood. Put swing hanger up through 3/8” hole in wood, place washer on top of swing hanger and attach lock tight nut. Threads should not protrude more than 2 threads past nut, nor more than .12” above top of wood. Verify that the hanger triangle with the nylon bearing is even with the wood. Shaft of the bolt must be completely in wood. If not the stress point will be on the bolt instead of the bearing and can result in breakage and injuries.

For Pipe: Depending upon the diameter of the pipe, you may have to use a longer swing hanger and cut protruding threads off hanger. Mark pipe with correct spacing. Using a power drill with a 3/8” bit, drill holes through pipe. Put swing hanger up through 3/8” hole in pipe; place washer on top of swing hanger and attach lock tight nut. Using a hacksaw, cut off all protruding threaded ends past two threads of bolt and remove any sharp edges with a metal file as needed.

To prevent a protrusion, this hanger should have a plastic cap placed over the nut on top of pipe. Verify that the hanger triangle with the nylon bearing is flush with the bottom of the pipe. Shaft of the bolt must be completely in pipe. If not the stress point will be on the bolt instead of the bearing and can result in breakage and injuries.

When in use this hanger may squeak and this is normal. Grease or oil bushings if squeaking noises are heard. You will need to use S-hooks or shackles from the chain to the swing hangers. Make sure the S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To do this you will need to use our S-hook pliers or a regular pair of channel lock pliers. WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking. Make sure that if you are using shackles they are also tightened. You will need to use S-hooks or H-shackles from the chain to the swing hangers. Make sure the S-hooks are closed to within .04 to meet ASTM safety standards. To do this you will need to use our S-hook pliers or a regular pair of channel lock pliers. Close according to Fig A1.19 for Fastening Devices.  WARNING: Once the S-hooks have been opened they will have to be replaced to avoid injuries from coming open and/or breaking.  Using a H175 wrench to open and close bolts. Make sure that if you are using shackles they are also tightened.

Protective surfacing that meets ASTM F1292 must be installed under swing set and extends at least six feet from the sides of the set and twice the height of the top bar in the front and back of swing set. Protective surfacing is one of the most important things that you can do to reduce the likelihood of serious injuries.

The new CPSC standard states the owner/operator of the swing set needs to post warning signs outside the use zone that are readily visible to the intended viewer and alert them to the potential hazard in time to take appropriate action. This message may be on either a sign or label outside the use zone. Signs should be posted that state the appropriate age group for the swing set. Not for Adults. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to stand on or use unsafely. Do not allow set to be used if damaged. Remove helmets, drawstrings or accessories around the neck which are all known to create head entrapment or entanglement hazards. Where applicable, Hot play surfaces are known to reach temperatures high enough to cause serious burns to children generally less than 4 years of age.

Specifications for all warning signs or labels should conform to ANSI Z535.1 and ANSI Z535.1 or ANSI Z535.1 in the following areas: legibility, type of lettering, clarity of message and symbol, color specifications and work message and visibility. The labels or signs should be durable and conform to UL 969. It has been and continues to be the responsibility of the owner/operator to replace signs or labels or both should they become illegible, destroyed or removed. Signs can be purchased at http://www.mindspring.com/~safetyplay.

Maintenance: At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for sharp edges and/or cracks in hanger, paying particular attention to nylon bushing surface. Make sure that the bottom portion of the figure 8 on the swing hanger is not coming open and that shackle or s hook is still closed properly. Make sure that bolt hole in wood is not enlarging, putting stress on the bolt of the swing hanger by allowing the bolt to move back and forth. Check for vandalism and misuse. Replace parts if necessary.

Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
