Our 3/16″ Trivalent chain is made to resist rust . This chain meets all ASTM requirements. The coating has a consistent bright finish. This chain would be good in coastal areas. The chain is 4/0 Aught and Grade 30. The links are 1” long and the opening is ½” wide. Any of our S-hooks or Shackles will work with this chain. Chain that is not bought from a playground manufacturer does not have the quality control and have been known to have weak links and can contain air bubbles. This product should last 2 years in harsh conditions and up to 5 years in optimal conditions. Some conditions may require replacement sooner. Tensile 3200 lbs. Sold per foot or by the pail of 250’
Trivalent Coating Project
Objective: Improve salt spray testing performance from 12 hours to 120 hours on clear zinc chain products.
Background: Process: Clean chain, zinc plate chain and apply trivalent coating.
Chain meets ASTM B633 Fe/Zn 5 Type III requirements.
Implemented a new trivalent coating along with process and equipment improvements.
The new trivalent coating is microscopically thinner with an improved resistance to a salt spray testing environment.
No change to the overall process flow.
Trivalent Coating Summary
Salt spray testing per ASTM B117 improved to 120+ hours to white rust.
The new coating has a consistent attractive bright finish.
Competitive information, external laboratory results:
Competing domestic chain manufacturers have not adopted this coating.
The graph below illustrates approximate hours to rust.
This is for children 0 – 12 years old only. Adults should supervise children at all times. Do not allow children to use unsafely. Do not allow it to be used if damaged.
IMPORTANT: Please read for important information. In this material we have tried to provide some requirements stated in the CPSC Handbooks, ASTM F2373-11, F1487-11 and F1148-09. However, we in no way intend for this to be a complete list of requirements. Also these publications are updated frequently with changes therefore, you should read these publications yourself to determine if any part or installation could prove a danger to a child.
To help keep children safe from harm, review installation and maintenance instructions before installing equipment. These are located in the description of every product on our website. www.jensenswing.com Download and print these instructions and keep in a safe place. Our website also has a “Product Testing Information” page. All products are tested for lead, phthalates and tensile strength. You can also call us at 1-800-227-7529 for more information or see http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/325.pdf.
Installation: Our parts are sold as either replacement parts or components of a set, unless you are buying our Metal Frame Set, therefore these parts need to be installed according to the sets installation instructions. If the installation instructions differ from ours please contact us at 800-227-7529.
Chain should always be attached using the last link in length of chain. Assembly will depend upon use. Use an S-hook or Shackle to attach chain to swing seat and/or swing hanger. Close according to Fig. A1.19 for Fastening Devices.
Maintenance: At beginning and end of each play season and once a month during play season, check for rusty or worn chain. Carefully check hole around fastener to look for wear. Check for vandalism. Replace parts if necessary. Check to make sure S-hooks and/ or H-shackles are closed properly. Maintain detailed inspection and maintenance records for public-use playground equipment.
Any damage from vandalism, abuse or misuse VOIDS all warranties.
